One of the most anticipated days in the 2017 recruiting cycle has arrived for Tennessee and coach Butch Jones as Trey Smith (Jackson, Tenn.) is set to make his decision between Tennessee, Alabama and Ohio State.

Landing  Smith would be a tremendous boon for Jones and the program after a few weeks of sweeping criticism and negativity surrounding his future with the program.

Smith, who is ranked as the No. 1 overall player in the nation by ESPN, is scheduled to make his announcement on ESPNU’s College Football Daily at 4 pm ET on Tuesday. Here’s the evaluation of Smith sent out by ESPN in promotion of the event:

“An outstanding combination of size, ability and toughness has helped elevate Trey Smith to the top spot in the ESPN 300,” said ESPN national recruiting analyst Craig Haubert. “The five-star prospect has made noticeable strides since his sophomore year in filling out his frame and adding quality size. In addition to measurables, Smith is also a flexible and agile big man with the tools to protect the edge in pass pro and generate lanes in the run game. Among the impressive traits the top tackle possesses is his tenacity, as he is a big man that plays with attitude and a demeanor to finish every play. Smith is a talented prospect at a premium position and demonstrates the ability to develop into a premier college tackle, with the ability to be a quick contributor once arriving on campus.”

Smith, a five-star prospect on every major recruiting site except for Rivals.com, will be an early enrollee at whichever school he selects. He’ll also play in the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 1, 2017 (1 pm ET, ESPN).
