Williams Wants To Checker Thompson-Boling Arena For UNC Next Season

North Carolina’s victory over Gonzaga on Monday evening gave the Tar Heels a national title and gave the Vols the guarantee that the defending champs will be visiting Thompson-Boling Arena during the 2017-18 season at some point as UNC returns for the second part of a home-and-home against Tennessee.

The Vols almost pulled off the shocker in Chapel Hill this past season, falling 73-71 on Dec. 11 in a game that Tennessee led the majority of the way.

Tennessee rising sophomore forward Grant Williams threw out an idea on Twitter that he hopes could help put the Vols over the top when UNC comes to Knoxville next year.

Checkering stadiums has become a recent tradition at Tennessee. The Vols have checkered Neyland Stadium the past three years and Thompson-Boling Arena has also been checkered in the past when Kentucky came to town (pictured above).

So it’s a completely feasible plan, and judging by some of the social media reaction to Williams’ post, it seems that there’s a good deal of interest from the fans as well. It seems like as good a time as any to bring it back to TBA.
