Chidi Okonya Decommits From Tennessee

Chidi Okonya

Tennessee lost its second commitment in a matter of hours on Sunday evening when 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end Chidi Okonya, who pledged to the Vols in May, decommitted, following in the footsteps of TaDarryl Marshall, who did the same a couple hours earlier.

While Marshall clearly stated that it was a business decision by Tennessee to revoke his scholarship offer, Okonya didn’t go into any such detail, leaving it a bit ambiguous at this point as to whether this was his decision to look around or if the Tennessee staff forced his hand.

Tennessee’s commitment list shrunk by two from 18 to 16 in a matter of hours after both Okonya, a four-star prospect from Riverdale, Ga., and Marshall, a three-star ‘athlete’ from Leeds, Ala., both decommitted. The Vols have three commitments along the defensive line after losing Okonya – recently-committed junior college defensive end Jonathan Kongbo III, junior college defensive tackle Alexis Johnson and high school defensive tackle D’Andre Christmas-Giles.

The Vols’ class is now No. 19 in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite ranking.
