I’ll start with my normal caveat I put in when writing a post about the officiating. I don’t know if this cost Tennessee the game. Florida kicker Austin Hardin was money on this kick and had room to spare. Maybe he lines up from 54 and drills it again. Maybe he misses it and Florida still scores again late in the game. I don’t know.
But reality is that what proved to be the game-winning field goal for the Gators never should’ve happened. Replays clearly show the ball not snapped with 0 seconds remaining on the clock. Delay of game, back it up five yards and the Gators would’ve had a choice to punt or try it from 54. With the way things have gone in this series, it’s hard to believe that the outcome would’ve been different. But this play at least shouldn’t have counted.
