Report Card: Florida 10 Tennessee 9

Neyland Stadium-1-4

 Overall

Daniel:  This was a game Tennessee should’ve won. I thought Florida did some things better than they had on film up this point in the season, but UT was handed plenty of opportunities. Nobody is content with any kind of moral victory from yesterday. So in that sense, the Vols failed. But there were some positive, and part of evaluating a team in the rebuilding phase like Tennessee is to point to some to what UT can still build on. The defense was incredible. Aaron Medley continues to build confidence. The Vols are a few pieces away from something special. It may not come this year, but it will. Saturday wasn’t the huge step everybody in orange wanted. The Vols didn’t get the job done as a team in this case. Better days will come. Saturday just wasn’t one of them. Grade: D

Houston: This was Tennessee’s best chance to end the Gator’s win streak in the last ten years and they blew it. First half penalties and second half turnovers kept the offense from every finding any sort of rhythm despite being set up with tremendous field-position thanks to forced turnovers by the defense. Offensive play-calling did leave something to be desired, but I don’t know that anything would have worked with regularity in this one. Tennessee’s offensive line couldn’t do anything against Florida’s defensive front, which ultimately led to an interception and a sack-fumble that set up Florida’s touchdown. Butch Jones said it best last night, “We aren’t good enough to over come penalties and turnovers.” – and that point was proven yesterday. Grade: D

Reed: Tennessee just didn’t get it done in a game the hapless Gators tried to give them. Florida is awful. Muschamp is on his way out and the Vols had a golden opportunity to put the nail in his coffin and perhaps start of streak of their own. The defense played one of its best games in years but it was all overshadowed by an inept offense. This would be an F if not for the Vol defense. Grade: D

Average Grade: D
