Gray named Florida State, Tennessee and Alabama, in that order, his top three in early May and then committed to the Vols on a visit on June 12. Gray’s teammate, receiver Princeton Fant, committed one week later, giving the Vols a dynamic duo from LaVergne in the 2017 class.

How he fits
Gray has the frame and physicality of a linebacker, but the athleticism of a safety – which is his most likely home, though he could excel in college at either spot. With several key personnel losses coming after the 2016 season for the Vols, they would love for the consensus top-100 player to come be part of the group that reloads that side of the ball.
