Tennessee was overmatched from the start. Even before we knew that Darrin Kirkland Jr., Cortez McDowell, Dylan Wiesman, Malik Foreman and Jashon Robertson were out for the game, and about the in-game injuries to Kahlil McKenzie, Brett Kendrick and others, this was a very tough matchup for UT on paper. So you can’t put this all on the coaching staff. What can you do when you can’t block the defensive front and are playing with backups all over the defense? It’s tough, no doubt. But life in the SEC is unfair at times. And while it’s understandable that UT lost the game, it’s also fair to say that the staff probably didn’t do enough to try to overcome some of those issues and at least make the game more competitive.
