Was it a good ranking? Guarantano didn’t play a snap in 2016, but that was exactly what the Vols were hoping for. Blessed with good health at quarterback, the Vols were able to keep their talented freshman on the bench, earning him a redshirt season and up to four more years on campus. I saw enough in practice to know that he has a ton of upside. The top-ranked dual-threat QB in the class moves well, has a cannon of an arm and the look of a future starter. How long will that take? It could be as soon as next season as he’s expected to battle with junior Quinten Dormady for the starting nod.
