Former Vols Impress in Their Preseason Debuts

Yes, it’s just the preseason. But two former Vols are already impressing with their play in the NFL during the preseason.

Former Vols Derek Barnett and Alvin Kamara made their NFL debuts in the preseason on Thursday night, and both left Vol fans and fans of their respective NFL teams smiling.

Barnett recorded two sacks in the first half of the Philadelphia Eagles’ preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers. His first one came off an impressive move to blow past the Packers’ left tackle.

It’s worth noting that Barnett’s first ever sack in the NFL (albeit, in the preseason) came at Lambeau Field and against the Packers, the team former Vol legend Reggie White played for. White played for both the Eagles (Barnett’s current team) and Packers in his NFL career, and Barnett famously just broke White’s career sack record at Tennessee in 2016.

Kamara also had a solid debut for the New Orleans Saints, carrying the ball four times for 35 yards. His most impressive run came in the first quarter when he ran into a wall of Cleveland Browns defenders, escaped, and ripped off a 22-yard run.

It’s just the preseason, but some of Tennessee’s newest additions to the NFL are already turning heads with their play.
