2. Can the Vols Salvage Their Season?

The Vols have had worse starts to seasons in the past and have managed to salvage their season. The 2007 Vols started the year 1-2 and were blown out by Florida in Week 3, yet that team went on to win the SEC East. Tennessee’s 2015 season under Butch Jones was saved after a 2-3 start by a comeback victory over Georgia in Week 6.

But can the Vols manage to save this season from ending with five or more losses?

An 8-4 season wouldn’t be exciting to almost any Vol fan, but with the way this season has started and with the way the Vols’ offense has looked, that kind of finish wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world from a record standpoint.

Aside from Tennessee’s game against Alabama, the rest of the schedule features very winnable games down the stretch. The Vols shouldn’t be significant underdogs in any game besides the Alabama one for the rest of the season. But that doesn’t mean the Vols will or can go 6-1 in the final seven games of the season.

Butch Jones may be coaching for his job in the coming weeks. And that starts with South Carolina after the bye week. Tennessee lost to the Gamecocks off a bye week last year, and Will Muschamp will be looking to remain undefeated against the Vols in his career. If the Vols can’t defeat South Carolina in Neyland Stadium, things may go south in a hurry.
