Vols Land Commitment from Defensive Tackle from IMG Academy

Tennessee hosted a large number of recruits this weekend before the dead period in recruiting began. And that weekend is already starting to pay off for new head coach  Jeremy Pruitt and his staff.

The Vols landed a commitment from three-star defensive tackle Kingston Harris on Monday afternoon. Harris was one of the many recruits who visited Tennessee this weekend, and he saw enough to want to commit to the Vols. He’s an early enrollee who ranks as the No. 90 defensive tackle in the country according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Harris chose Tennessee over offers from Maryland, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, UCF, and others.

IMG Academy has produced some elite-level talent in recruiting over the years, and that’s where Harris comes from. He’s played against some talented high school players the last few years, and his tape shows a versatile athlete.

Harris played both defensive tackle and defensive end the past couple years. But at 6-foot-4, 272 pounds, he projects to play along the interior of the line in college as long as he adds more mass and muscle to his frame.

His highlight film shows a tackle who plays with great strength and a great motor. Though the phrase “he has a great motor” gets overused when describing players, it’s certainly true for Harris when watching his film. He makes several tackles downfield and chases down ball carriers from behind on multiple occasions in his highlight tape from his junior and senior years.

Harris gives the Vols 11 solid commitments in their 2018 class, and he’s the fourth projected defensive tackle to give the Vols a pledge in the class. He joins four-star Greg Emerson, four-star Brant Lawless, and three-star D’Andre Litaker.
