How the Vols are Faring in Crystal Ball Predictions

It’s time to update the Vols’ crystal ball predictions once again. We took a look a week and a half ago at how Tennessee was faring with some of their top targets in the 2018 class when it comes to their crystal ball predictions. And we’re back again with an update.

For those unfamiliar, 247Sports has a feature on their site where recruiting analysts and football writers across the country can attempt to predict where high school recruits will end up for college. That feature is called their “crystal ball” predictions.

Here’s how Tennessee is trending with some of their top remaining targets.

Isaac Taylor-Stuart, CB

The Vols’ highest rated remaining target, Taylor-Stuart picked up two predictions to commit to Texas A&M at the beginning of 2018. Both Sam Spiegelman of SEC Country and Tom Loy of IrishIllustrated.com put in predictions for the Aggies to land Taylor-Stuart’s pledge. It’s worth noting that the five-star corner plans to visit the Vols on the last weekend before National Signing Day in February.

Olaijah Griffin, CB

Tennessee is going after defensive backs hard over the last month of the 2018 recruiting cycle, and one of their top targets is Olaijah Griffin out of California. The four-star corner and top-50 overall player (according to the 247Sports Composite rankings) has seen a flurry of predictions come in for him. Once he decommitted from UCLA in late December, three analysts put out crystal balls projecting him to commit to Tennessee. But he’s recently picked up a prediction for USC from Blair Angulo from 247Sports. And it’s worth noting that Angulo is a perfect 28 out of 28 for his predictions.

Joshua Moore, CB/WR

Joshua Moore’s recruitment has taken several twists and turns, but the four-star prospect is now back in open waters after he decommitted from Nebraska. The Vols are looking at Moore as a corner, but he also plays wide receiver in high school and could play that position for a team as well. His twin brother Jordan, a four-star safety, signed with Texas A&M during the early signing period. And Joshua has received an influx of predictions pegging him to the Aggies as well. He’s received five crystal ball predictions to commit to Texas A&M since 2018 began.

Aaron Brule, S/LB

Once he decommitted from Georgia on Christmas, Aaron Brule became a hot commodity in the 2018 recruiting class. Tennessee appears to be interested in him, and the borderline three-star/four-star prospect is a hybrid player who can play safety or linebacker. Right now, however, it appears TCU is the favorite to land him, and he just picked up another crystal ball to commit to the Horned Frogs from Gabe Brooks of Scout.com. He’s received 17 crystal balls to TCU since mid-December, and he has one crystal ball pegging him to Oklahoma State that he picked up on December 27th.

Maurice Washington, RB

One of the Vols’ more recent offers, Maurice Washington will be a name to keep an eye on moving forward. The underrated running back just earned MVP honors from the Under Armour All-America game after he set a record for most touchdowns in one game by a player when he scored three in the game. Right now, Washington’s recruitment is cloudy, and experts are split on where he’ll end up. He’s picked up two crystal balls to Nebraska and two to Ole Miss over the past week.

Moro Ojomo, DT

Another somewhat recent offer for Tennessee, Moro Ojomo is an intriguing defensive tackle prospect who hails from Katy, Texas. While the Vols are making a push to land him, all the experts believe he’ll stay in the state of Texas. He’s received a multitude of predictions to commit to Texas A&M, and his most recent crystal ball was to the Aggies in late December by Chris Smith of CommodoresDaily.com.

Eddie Smith, CB

Though he was once committed to TCU, Eddie Smith has become a Tennessee lean over the last couple weeks. He decommitted from the Horned Frogs in mid-December, and Jeremy Pruitt and his staff have been pursuing him hard ever since. Smith is set to visit the Vols this month as well. The three-star corner picked up another crystal ball prediction to Tennessee recently after receiving one in late December as well. Mike Roach of 247Sports put in a prediction for the Vols to land Smith on January 5th.

Jaevon Becton, DE

Three-star defensive end/linebacker Jaevon Becton had been trending towards the Vols for a while, but his most recent crystal ball predictions go against that trend. Becton picked up two crystal balls for Virginia Tech recently, and his most recent prediction came from Evan Watkins of VTScoop.
