7 Most Underrated Players in Vols’ 2018 Signing Class

Right now, Brandon Davis is a blueshirt candidate. He may not contribute immediately as a freshman, but I think his ceiling is much higher than most expect.

The reason Davis wasn’t rated higher than he was is because he focused on baseball a lot during high school along with football. And he excelled at both. He had the ability to head to the MLB out of high school if he wanted thanks to a career .311 batting average and .927 career OPS.

But Davis decided to go to college and try and play both sports. And the Vols’ football team will benefit from that decision.

Davis’ highlight film from high school shows off his physicality and awareness. In his career, he had 13 interceptions in 34 games and broke up 37 passes. He returned two interceptions and a fumble for a touchdown his senior year as well.

At 5-foot-11. 160 pounds, Davis will need to add some weight to compete in the SEC. That’s why I don’t expect him to come in and fight for a starting job or a lot of snaps as a freshman. But I do think he’ll outperform his No. 1,775 overall ranking in this class.
