Tight end figures to be a much more important position in Tennessee’s new offense under Jeremy Pruitt and offensive coordinator Tyson Helton. And the Vols got a big time commit from a tight end in the 2019 class on Friday afternoon.

Jackson Lowe is a 6-foot-4, 240 pound tight end out of Cartersville, Georgia, and he took to Twitter to announce his commitment to Tennessee on Friday. Lowe has visited the Vols twice this year, attending one of their Junior Day weekends in late February and unofficially visiting the campus again earlier this month.

Though he’s rated as just a three-star and the No. 16 tight end in the 2019 class per the 247Sports Composite rankings, Lowe holds offers from some of the top schools in college football. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, and others have all offered Lowe. I fully expect him to eventually get four-star status during this recruiting cycle.

A look at Lowe’s film shows off how diverse he is as a tight end. He’s very good as a pass catcher and has some impressive hands. He uses his 6-foot-4 frame to his full potential and doesn’t shy away from contact. He looks a little slimmer than 240 pounds like his recruiting profile suggests, but he plays like a bigger tight end off the line. He’s exceptionally good at run blocking and can pass block effectively as well. He’s a very well-rounded tight end and possesses superb physicality.

One reason Lowe isn’t rated higher than he is might be because he wasn’t a focal point of the offense for Cartersville High School last season. He was used a lot as blocker, but he shined when he did catch passes. As a junior, Lowe had 16 receptions for 340 yards and six touchdowns according to MaxPreps.

Lowe becomes the third player to pledge his commitment to Tennessee in the 2019 class. He joins four-star offensive lineman Jackson Lampley and four-star athlete Te’Cory Couch as Vols commits in the 2019 class.

The Vols will be looking to add several quality tight ends to their roster in future recruiting classes, and they picked up a commitment from one of the best overall players at that position in this class in Jackson Lowe. Expect Tennessee to try and add another tight end to go along with Lowe.
