Tennessee was looking for their first big splash of the Jeremy Pruitt era in recruiting for the 2019 cycle. Pruitt and his staff were able to haul in a top-50 overall player in four-star linebacker J.J. Peterson in the 2018 class, but that type of move hadn’t happened in the 2019 class yet.

That is, until Tuesday.

Elite, four-star offensive tackle Wanya Morris announced live on air during the early evening hours on Tuesday. And he chose the Vols as his college destination.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Morris is the No. 46 overall player in the 2019 class and the No. 7 offensive tackle in the class as well. Those rankings also have him rated as the eighth-best player in the state of Georgia. He chose the Vols over Auburn as his two finalists, and he also holds offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, and many others.

The 6-foot-5, 300 pound lineman listed the Vols as one of top two teams back in early March, including them along with Auburn as his two finalists moving forward. Morris was once committed to Florida State, but he decommitted from them in late November of last year. Jeremy Pruitt sent out an offer to him not even a week after accepting the job as Tennessee’s head coach.

And now he’s committed to the Vols.

Morris is a big wall of an offensive lineman who can actually move fairly well for his immense size. He doesn’t get pushed around by opposing defensive linemen, and he has a powerful upper body. His footwork will likely need some work, but the intangibles are there for Morris. He has an extremely high ceiling and could be an immediate impact type of player for Tennessee in 2019.

Morris is easily the Vols’ highest-rated player in their 2019 recruiting class. He’s the fifth commit in Tennessee’s 2019 class and joins four-star, in-state lineman Jackson Lampley as offensive linemen in Tennessee’s 2019 class.

Morris has several highly-rated teammates at Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia. Three of them, Owen Pappoe, Kenyatta Watson, and Kevin Harris, are announcing their decisions along with Morris today.
