No matter how you slice it, this game was a disappointment for the Vols and for Vol fans. Sure, Guarantano and Jordan were nice surprises, and it was good to see UT’s receivers make some good plays. But the offensive line and overall defensive performance took away from a lot of the positives. Tennessee just had bad match-ups all around in this one, so there’s a good chance they don’t look this bad again this season until they face the likes of Alabama. There are some good things to take away from Saturday’s game, but there’s plenty more to fix.

The defense impacts this grade drastically. Other than not being able to finish drives and the interior of the offensive line struggling, I thought the offense had a solid day. On the other side of the ball, the defense had an awful day. Tennessee struggled to put pressure on Will Grier and allowed West Virginia’s receivers to do whatever they wanted to do. And as a result, it was a long day for the Vols.
