Former Vols Kamara, Patterson Dazzle in NFL on Sunday

A pair of former Vols had some electrifying plays and posted solid numbers on Sunday in the NFL. Running back Alvin Kamara had another career day, and wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson scored his first touchdown of the season on an impressive catch and run.

The New Orleans Saints were on the road against the New York Giants, and they fed the ball to Kamara in order to get the 33-18 win. Kamara touched the ball 24 times on offense a week after getting 31 touches in a 43-37 win in overtime against the Atlanta Falcons. Last week, Kamara set a career-high in receptions and receiving yards when he hauled in 15 catches for 124 yards. This week, he set a career-high on the ground.

Kamara picked up 134 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries on Sunday, and he added five receptions for 47 yards as well. His most electrifying play came on a 49-yard touchdown run that iced the game for the Saints with just over two minutes to go.

The former Vol standout scored a couple other times as well, once from four yards out and another from the nine-yard line.

Kamara’s three rushing touchdowns were a career-high as well, and Sunday marked the second time in four games this season that Kamara has scored three touchdowns in a game. He had three total scores in the Saints’ season-opening loss to Tampa Bay.

But Kamara wasn’t the only former Vol who impressed on Sunday.

Cordarrelle Patterson turned heads with his dazzling 55-yard touchdown reception during New England’s rout of Miami on Sunday. Patterson caught a Tom Brady pass, zoomed down the field, made a defender miss, and ran into the end zone.

The 55-yard score was the third-longest reception of Patterson’s NFL career and marked his first touchdown of the 2018 season.

On the season, Kamara has 56 carries for 275 yards and five touchdowns to go along with 35 catches for 336 yards and a touchdown. He leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage.

Patterson now has eight catches for 90 yards and a touchdown with New England, and he has five carries for 29 yards as well. Patterson has also returned six kick-offs for an average of 26.2 yards.
