One of the more intriguing positions every year is the “athlete.” Where do these players best project? What kind of project are they, or are they ready to contribute immediately?

This year, Tennessee is in on a few highly-rated athletes in the 2020 cycle. And the top on that list is the No. 1 athlete in the 2020 class, Arik Gilbert.

Gilbert is a massive 6-foot-5, 248-pound prospect who plays for Marietta in Georgia. He’s teammates with Tennessee quarterback commit Harrison Bailey, and he projects as a tight end in college. He would fit in on defense as well, but it seems like tight end is his position of the future. He’ll be very tough to get away from Clemson or Georgia, but the Vols will give all they can to try and get him.

Kristian Story was once committed to the Vols but decommitted a few months ago. He’s still considering the Vols a lot, but Alabama seems like the favorite now. Enzo Jennings out of Michigan will be tough to pull away from the Big Ten schools recruiting him, but the Vols are in a good spot with him currently.

Demarcus Beckwith out of Alabama is a sneaky good prospect to watch in Tennessee’s 2020 recruiting efforts. The Vols offered him back in January, and there’s a good chance he visits campus a few times.

Another name to watch is Kundarrius Taylor. He’s a JUCO product that used to play in Memphis, and he’s teammates with Vol commit Jordan Davis and Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He also knows Jeremy Banks from their time in Memphis.
