Post-Game Reaction: Tennessee is Going Bowling!

The Vols trailed in the first half in an SEC game yet again on Saturday night. And just like in their last three SEC games, Tennessee found a way to come back and hold on for a victory.

Tennessee fell behind 3-0 then 10-7 in the second quarter to beat Missouri on the road on Saturday night, but the Vols would use a record-setting night on offense and timely stops on defense to propel themselves to victory.

UT totaled 526 yards of offense including a career-high 415 passing yards from Jarrett Guarantano en route to a 24-20 win over the Tigers on Saturday. Guarantano tossed two touchdowns along with his 400-plus passing yards, and three different Vol receivers — Jauan Jennings, Marquez Callaway, and Josh Palmer — all went over 100 yards receiving. That’s the first time in school history that three different players eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark in a single game.

Tennessee’s defense, meanwhile, held Missouri to 0-of-6 on third downs in the second half, and they held the Tigers to under 300 yards of offense and only 4.2 yards per play. The Tigers took advantage of several Vol mistakes, most notably two blocked field goals and a fumble on offense. But UT’s defense stood their ground on several other occasions, and Tennessee managed to end their two-game losing streak to Missouri in the process.

Tennessee has now won four-straight games and are winners of five of their last six contests. After starting the year 1-4, Tennessee has gone 5-1 in their last six games and are now 6-5 overall and 4-3 in SEC play.

After the game, there was plenty to talk about, and we did just that.

Managing editor Nathanael Rutherford hopped on YouTube for a live stream of the RTI Post-Game Reaction Show late Saturday night to discuss the Vols’ big win, their offensive explosion, potential bowl match-ups for UT, and much more.
