Tennessee will be looking for help at wide receiver in the 2021 class to help bolster the position moving forward. The Vols already have one wide receiver committed to them in the 2021 cycle, and they’re pursuing several others. On Sunday, an elite receiver out of Georgia included the Vols among his top teams in his recruitment.

Jaquez Smith is a four-star wideout who plays for Westlake High School in Atlanta. He previously played for Hapeville Charter in Atlanta. On Sunday, he tweeted out a list of his top six teams, and Tennessee made the cut along with Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, and Colorado.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Smith is the No. 137 overall player and the No. 27 wide receiver in the 2021 class. Smith already holds offers from over two dozen schools, and he added offers from Maryland, Michigan State, Arkansas, Miami, Colorado, Arizona State, and Minnesota in January of this year alone. LSU, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, and Michigan have also extended offers to Smith.

The Vols were one of the first teams to extend an offer to Smith back in 2018. Nebraska gave him his first offer in June of 2017, and Florida followed that up with an offer in July of the same year. Jeremy Pruitt and his staff offered Smith in April of 2018, as did Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver is a shifty athlete in space, and he’s used in a variety of ways on offense in high school. He can turn screen passes into big gains, and he’s a good downfield threat for not being the tallest receiver. Smith shows some good footwork and route-running ability in his highlight film as well.

Right now, Tennessee has six prospects committed to them in the 2021 class, and one of them is from a wide receiver. Four-star wideout Jordan Mosley from Mobile, Alabama is the Vols’ highest-rated commit in the 2021 cycle currently.
