On offense, Tennessee’s biggest priorities are to add a dynamic running back (especially if they miss out on Zach Evans to close out the 2020 cycle), pick up at least one tight end, add another receiver or two, pick up an offensive linemen or two, and to add a quarterback. Most of UT’s glaring needs are on defense for the 2021 cycle, but the Vols do have a few notable holes to fill on offense.

Arguably the biggest need for UT is to get a big-time running back in the 2021 class. Even if the Vols do end up getting five-star Zach Evans on campus for the 2020 season, adding another stud back in this class is a big focus. TreVeyon Henderson is one of Tennessee’s biggest overall targets regardless of position, and UT’s coaching staff has made him a priority for a bit. Now with Jay Graham as the Vols’ running backs coach, that could give Tennessee yet another edge. Cody Brown is also a big-time name at the RB position that the Vols are pushing for. There are others and will be more names to emerge at this position, but those two are definitely the headliners as of now.

Tennessee missed out on bringing in a true, developed tight end in their 2020 class. Dee Beckwith could eventually play there, but he’s starting out at wide receiver. The Vols are young at tight end in 2020 outside of veteran Austin Pope, and it’s a pretty big mystery what UT has there right now. With in-state TE Jake Briningstool already committed to Clemson, the Vols are targeting a few other names behind him, most notably another in-state target in Hudson Wolfe. The staff also likes Miles Campbell, and athlete Trinity Bell is a huge 6-foot-7 body who could play either tight end or defensive line, depending on where the staff wants to use him. Jermaine Terry is another name to keep an eye on here.

The Vols hauled in a lot of quality receiver prospects in the 2020 class, and they currently have four-star Jordan Mosley committed to them in the 2021 class. UT would like to add at least one more wideout to this class, maybe two. In-state options Tray Curry, Walker Merrill, and Adonai Mitchell are intriguing, as are four-stars Dont’e Thornton and Kobe Paysour.

With both Wanya Morris and Darnell Wright entering their junior years in 2021, adding a backup to them to take their place once they likely leave early for the NFL would be ideal. The Vols aren’t targeting a ton of offensive linemen in the 2021 cycle, but Amarius Mims and Eli Sutton are two names to know. Along the interior, UT also really likes in-state target Dietrick Pennington.

Tennessee may have added an elite quarterback in their 2020 class with Harrison Bailey, and dynamic athlete Jimmy Holiday will get a shot at QB to start his UT career, but it would do the Vols well to add another signal caller in the 2021 class. With the prominence of transfers at the quarterback position in recent years, teams almost have to sign at least one quarterback every cycle now. It’s believed that aside from Alabama commit Drake Maye, Tennessee’s top target is four-star Christian Veilleux. UT also recently offered four-star Miller Moss, whose head coach over at Bishop Alemany is former Vol quarterback Casey Clausen.
