What we like:

Hudson Wolfe has the perfect build for an SEC tight end. And he’s not just some big statue out on the field, either; Wolfe is pretty athletic and has an exceptional catch radius. He’s a dangerous pass catcher, and that’s exemplified by him lining up as a wide receiver on most snaps for Hardin County. But Wolfe also lines up as an H-back and tight end for Hardin County, and that’s where he really gets to show off his ability as a blocker. He’s aggressive and physical when blocking, and he has the tools to be a great all-around tight end at the next level. He has some shades of Jason Witten to his game, but I don’t want to put that comparison on him just yet, obviously.

Places to improve:

While Wolfe definitely has a lot of pass catching skills, he’ll need to expand his route tree in college. He doesn’t have a lot of variations to his routes in high school, so he’ll need to add more to his repertoire to be more of a weapon in the passing game in college. I love the foundation he already has as a blocker, and aside from tightening up some of his technique there, I think that’s a big strength of his.

Analysis:

Unless someone in Tennessee’s current tight end room has a breakout season in 2020, I think Wolfe has the potential to come in and be an instant impact player at his position. He and Miles Campbell offer diverse skill sets at tight end, and I think Wolfe just looks like the perfect SEC tight end. He’s a gifted athlete, is already a decent blocker, and is a big scoring threat in the red zone. As long as he stays healthy and is a good student of the game, Wolfe will have the opportunity to play as a true freshman in 2021.
