Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Tennessee Titans Odds

Fresh off of back to back shootouts, the Titans invite the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers defense into Nashville. The Steelers just lost Devin Bush, their middle linebacker who typically covers the tight end on passes and makes plays in the backfield on running backs. He is now out for the season and this will be their first game without their fearless leader. Derrick Henry will not miss being haunted by Devin Bush. Derrick Henry has been unstoppable for the last two years for Tennessee. Mike Tomlin will be gameplanning all week to stop Derrick Henry.

Thanks to Derrick Henry, the Titans have become the second leading offensive team in the NFL. Averaging a wild 32.8 points per game, the Titans offense has put up over 40 points in each of the last two games. It is important to recognize that the defenses that the Titans faced in those games are near the worst in the league. When facing a difficult defense, the Denver Broncos held the Titans to 16 points. Perhaps the Steelers will show the Titans more resistance than their other competitors?

NFL Week 7 Injury Report

Pittsburgh Steelers

Devin Bush is out for the year with a deflating ACL injury. He will be badly missed by the Steelers defense.

Dionte Johnson is questionable with a back injury but is expected to play. The Steelers will have their 4 receivers together for the first time.

Maurkice Pouncey is expected to play this week for the Steelers. He is their center and leader on defense.

David DeCastro practiced Wednesday and is on track to play for the Steelers this week.

Tennessee Titans

Taylor Lewan also had a horrible knee injury that ended his season last week. Losing their left tackle is a terrible loss for Tennessee. He’s a tough guy we wish him well.

Jonnu Smith is the biggest injury to watch this week. He got a limited session on Wednesday but missed nearly the entire game last week against the Texans. The hope is that he plays but that is anyone’s guess at this point.

Update: After missing the entire game against the Texans, Jonnu has practiced everyday this week. He was removed from the injury report and should be fully healthy for this week’s game.

AFC South Standings After Week 6

  • Tennessee Titans 5-0
  • Indianapolis Colts 4-2
  • Houston Texans 1-5
  • Jacksonville Jaguars 1-5

Implied Winning Probability

A staple statistic for any serious sports bettor, implied winning probability is great to calculate the true odds you have of winning a bet. This stat can help you calculate the vig that a sportsbook will carry and if you truly agree with the percent chance you are being given. For instance, the implied winning probability here is 53.27%. The Titans are being given -114 odds by DraftKings leading to those percent chance odds.

Conversely, the Steelers are currently underdogs in this matchup. They are exactly +100 to win this game on Sunday which is always 50% in implied probability. Had there been no juice or vig in this game, both teams would be +100. DraftKings is currently charging a 3.27% vig for this matchup. Make sure to calculate implied winning probability especially when betting on parlays or prop bets. That is when sportsbooks really charge vigs and make money.

Betting Trends

Over/Under: After over bets hit at a 60% clip over the first 5 weeks things took a quick halt in week 6. Over bets only hit at 30% in week 6 leading me to believe that sportsbooks have corrected accordingly. The over/under for this game is set at 50.5. The biggest part of this game’s point total is the loss of Devin Bush. The Steelers are second in the league against the run averaging just 66.2 rushing yards per game. The over is a strong bet here as the Titans and Steelers are two of the most loaded offenses in the league.

Line Movement: The Titans are favorites to win this game since the onset. However, the line has been all over the place with the Steelers leaping to -2 on Monday. The money has shifted back towards the Titans who have settled at -1.5. The Steelers are not going to let Derrick Henry run over them like the Texans and Bills did. I’d expect the Steelers to return to favorite status before gametime.

Second Best Rushing Defense vs. Second Best Rushing Offense: The matchup should be very interesting in this one. Devin Bush is out now so that throws a monkey wrench into plans for the Steelers. Derrick Henry averages 4.8 yards per carry. Furthermore, he is on pace for 1,882 rushing yards this season and an insane, 19 touchdowns. No one is sure what will happen in this matchup but the Steelers will absolutely look to shut down Henry early.

DraftKings Best Bet: Titans First Half Over 12.5 -137

Steelers vs. Titans Prop Bets

All odds are presented are from DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook and available currently at Colorado online sports betting apps and other legal states where the Sportsbook apps operate.

Jonnu Smith 2+ Touchdowns +1100

Their number 1 red zone target in the pass game practiced fully on Friday. He is fully healthy and ready for the impending offensive explosion. 11:1 is phenomenal odds considering AJ Brown is +475 to do the same thing.

Ryan Tannehill or +1.5 TD Passes -180 /Ben Rothelisberger over 1.5 TD Passses -195

These are separate bets but they are the same prop. I think both of these quarterbacks will get over this total. I gave one big longshot bet so just to be risk responsible we are going to take two sem-obvious ones.

Total Touchdowns Over 5.5 -122

A solid opportunity to win this bet. Keep in mind, the overall total is 50.5. 6 touchdowns is just 42 points in this game. This does not include field goals of course but regardless, the point total in this game being so much higher makes this fantastic value.
