The Tennessee Volunteers were back on the practice field on Tuesday morning. The Vols are looking to shake off their loss to Florida, while also preparing themselves for Missouri this weekend. Tennessee is 2-2 after the first four games with six straight SEC opponents in front of them.

It’s safe to say that even with success in the season so far, Tennessee will need to hit another level here in the middle of the season.

Tennessee is only entering the fifth week of the Josh Heupel era, so there have been growing pains with a new team. But ultimately, one of the biggest issues for Tennessee early in the season has been just regular pains. Well, a high number of injuries is probably the better way to phrase that. Regardless, the Vols have had to deal with injuries to starting offensive linemen, receivers, running backs, quarterbacks, and linebackers. Looking at the glass half-full, though, it has also given plenty of Tennessee players the ability to gain valuable experience early in the season.

On Tuesday morning, Tennessee hit the practice field after reviewing the Florida film on Monday. After practice, two Tennessee assistant coaches, and three Tennessee players spoke to the media. Linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary and running backs coach Jerry Mack gave the coaching perspective on Tuesday, while running backs Jabari Small and Tiyon Evans, along with DB Theo Jackson, gave the player’s perspective.

Tennessee will be back on the football field for an SEC game this Saturday. The Vols (2-2, 0-1 SEC) will travel to take on the Missouri Tigers (2-2, 0-1 SEC), the former team of Josh Heupel. In 2016 and 2017, Heupel was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Tigers.

In addition, Tennessee is already an early underdog against Missouri.
