Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes met with the media Wednesday ahead of his team’s second preseason practice.

The Vols are coming off an offseason of turnover which saw them lose seven scholarship players— three to the NBA and four to the transfer portal— and bring in seven prep prospects and one transfer.

With that many new faces, there are plenty of questions facing Barnes’ seventh Tennessee team as they’re just under six weeks away from the season opener.

Barnes addressed some of those questions Wednesday, going into detail about how the new and old faces are meshing. The Vols head coach also discussed Tennessee’s January road trip to Texas— where Barnes spent 17 seasons as head coach.

Tennessee started strong last season, climbing as high as No. 6 in the rankings in January before sputtering down the stretch. The Vols earned a five-seed in the NCAA Tournament before Oregon State upset them in the first round.
