Like the nine other teams that came before them, Tennessee was taken down by top-ranked Georgia on Saturday evening in Knoxville. Georgia played a dominant game, particularly in the middle quarters, as a team with that much talent should. But nonetheless, the gritty Vols, led by head coach Josh Heupel, never gave up.

On Saturday in Knoxville, No. 1 Georgia took down Tennessee by a score of 41-17.

One of the biggest takeaways from the game, right off the bat, is Tennessee’s 17 points. The Vols’ 17 points are not only almost three times the amount that Georgia’s defense allows per game, it is the most points in a game that Georgia has let up this year. Coming into the game, the ‘Dawgs were giving up, on average, less than seven points per game. After a 10-play, 77-yard touchdown drive from Tennessee to open the game, the Vols we’re already doing better than most. And again, before Tennessee, the most points Georgia had let up on the year was 13 to Kentucky and South Carolina.

After the game was over and the crowd was out of the stadium, RTI hosts Ryan Schumpert and Ric Butler broke down their thoughts on the game during the postgame breakdown. The guys discuss several topics around the game, including what went both good and bad for Tennessee, what was most surprising throughout the game, Josh Heupel’s opening drives, and of course, what’s next for Tennessee.

The Vols will be back in Neyland Stadium next Saturday night to take on South Alabama. With two games remaining, against South Alabama and Vanderbilt, Tennessee will still have a tremendous opportunity to become bowl eligible and finish the regular season at 7-5 in Heupel’s first year.
