Tennessee Football Lands Commitment From Elite Four-Star

The Tennessee Volunteers recruiting luck just keeps on trending upwards. Tennessee landed a big-time recruit on Sunday, although, they’ll have to wait a while for his services.

Four-star tight end Ethan Davis has officially announced his commitment to Josh Heupel and the Volunteers. Davis, a class of 2023 recruit, is the seventh highest-rated tight end in his class. Davis is also now the second commitment Tennessee has in the class of 2023.

Davis tweeted out the commitment on Sunday afternoon saying, “1000% committed.”

Davis stands at 6-foot-4 inches and weighs in at 215-pounds according to 247 Sports’ database. From Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, GA, Collins is a two-sport athlete in both basketball and football. Not only that, but Davis has power five scholarship offers in both sports as well.

According to 247 Sports Composite rankings, Davis is the eleventh-rated prospect from the state of Georgia and the seventh-ranked tight end in the class of 2023.

As an athlete, Davis is about as versatile as they come. His size and experience in the sport of basketball certainly give him a different movement on the football field. Davis’ natural athletic ability on the court translates over to the gridiron through his jumping and movement on the field. A terrific athlete, Davis will be able to give Tennessee a lot of flexibility as a pass catcher on the football field. However, Davis certainly has the ability and aggressiveness to be a blocker as well.

“A willing blocker, yet a nightmare mismatch for safeties and linebackers, as Davis routinely can outrun and out jump players at each position,” said Sports Illustrated’s Matt Ray about Davis.

Although he is still young, Davis has collected a considerable about of Division-1 scholarship offers to date. Davis has 24 offers, including from schools such as Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Florida, and Oregon. In total, Davis had offers from 11 SEC teams across both divisions.

Davis is slightly shorter than Tennessee tight end Jacob Warren but makes up for it with his explosiveness to the football and versatility on the field. According to SI’s Ray, Davis is used in his high school offense in several different ways, ranging from a traditional tight end slot or lining up with the receivers, to even lining up in the backfield at times.

Davis is the second total recruit in Josh Heupel’s 2023 class along with three-star wide receiver Jack Luttrell.
