Tennessee Moves Into the Top Position for Five-Star Carnell Tate

The Tennessee football program is putting in a considerable amount of effort to land five-star wide receiver Carnell Tate. After hosting the elite talent last weekend in Knoxville for the Tennessee spring scrimmage, the Vols seem to be rapidly rising up the charts for Tate’s recruitment.

Tennessee is now the favorite to land five-star wide receiver Carnell Tate according to On3 Sports’ Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Going back to Mar. 16, Tate announced a Top 5 of Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Tennessee. While Tennessee did have their foot in the door at that time, all signs were pointing to Ohio State. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine had Ohio State as the favorite to land Tate at 94.7 percent.

Since then, though, quite a lot has happened on the Tennessee side of things. The Vols hauled in a verbal commitment from five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who has called out Carnell Tate by name multiple times since his commitment as a player that he wants at Tennessee. The Vols were able to bring in both players to Knoxville, along with four-star wide receiver Kyler Kasper, last weekend for the scrimmage and visit on campus.

On Thursday night, On3 Sports’ Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons submitted a new prediction for Tennessee to land Tate. Following that prediction, Tennessee has now moved into the favorite spot at 54.8 percent. Ohio State is behind Tennessee at 36.1 percent, with Notre Dame in the third spot at 7.2 percent.

Also worth noting, Simmons did correctly predict Nico Iamaleava’s commitment to Tennessee 13 days before his commitment.

Out of Tate’s four total predictions from On3 Sports, the other three do land with Ohio State. However, none of those predictions are fairly recent. The first prediction to Ohio State came in during November, the next in December, and the final in February.

Vol Football: Tennessee Football Excluded From ESPN’s Preseason Top 25

“Might not be a 4.4 guy on the stopwatch, but likely to only get more explosive once frequenting a college weight room,” 247 Sports Southeast Recruiting Analyst Andrew Ivins said about Tate. “Should be viewed as one of the top pass catchers in a deep 2023 wide receiver class and a potential all-conference type of player for a Top 25 program. Ability to consistently shake defenders and generate big plays will eventually have him on the radar of NFL scouts.”

Carnell Tate will play his senior season at IMG Academy in Florida after transferring there before his junior season. In addition, Tennessee target and brother of Vol wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, four-star wideout Devin Hyatt, is also on the same IMG team.
