Five-Star Lineman Announces College Commitment

Five-star offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa committed to Miami over Tennessee, Southern Cal, Alabama, Florida and Hawaii Monday afternoon.

The nation’s top offensive lineman kept everyone in the dark heading into his announcement. Mauigoa’s commitment was not proceeded by the normal barrage of industry predictions in the days leading up to his announcement.

Mauigoa ranks as the No. 9 player and the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings.

The American Samoan native officially visited Tennessee, Florida, USC, Miami and Alabama in the weeks heading up to his July 4 decision.

Tennessee earned the five-star’s last visit but couldn’t reel in the blue-chip recruit.

More From RTI: Tennessee Beats Out Kentucky For Defensive Back

Tennessee currently holds commitments from a pair of offensive lineman: four-star Knoxville native Trevor Duncan and three-star Mount Juliet native Ayden Bussell.

The blue-chip recruit commitment to Miami is a damper on a strong stretch for Tennessee recruiting in the past 10 days. The Vols have earned four commitments, all on the defensive side of the ball in the past two weeks.

The Vols recruiting class currently ranks eighth nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.

Tennessee will look to regain recruiting momentum with a number of its top targets set to commit in the next week.
