Tony Finau leads the small contingency of top players to play in the 3M Open after competing in The Open Championship in Scotland last week. The Utah-native has +1100 odds to win at DraftKings Sportsbook, making him the favorite in this tournament played on a beautiful Arnold Palmer-designed course.

Favorites Include Three From Top 25

Tony Finau has two PGA Tour wins on his record, and this season he performed fairly well in the toughest competitions, finishing among the top 30 in three of the four majors. But, a win at the 3M would be his biggest victory yet. His 28th-place finish at The Open Championship showed his strength in the short game, with a glimmering round of 66 in the final round.

PGA Tour members must finish the season among the top 125 ranked players in order to qualify for the PGA Tour’s postseason. That’s just three weeks from now, which means the 3M Open is crucial for players who find themselves on the bubble.

Matsuyama (No. 14 in PGA rankings), Finau (No. 17), and Im (No. 24) are the top-rated golfers in the field, but there are many players who are seeking the big win here in Minnesota to salvage their season, and No. 45 Tom Hoge and No. 49 Cameron Tringale are also in the field.

3M Open Odds From DraftKings

Odds for 3M Open from DraftKings:

  • Tony Finau: +1100
  • Sungjae Im: +1600
  • Hideki Matsuyama: +1600
  • Maverick McNealy: +1600
  • Tom Hoge: +6500
  • Cameron Triangle: +1800

The 26-year old McNealy was in a perfect position to win his first PGA tourney on Sunday when he collapsed on the back nine to finish tied for ninth at the Barracuda Championship. He has three top-20 results this year and DraftKings likes him to be in the hunt for the 3M victory.

HOW TO WATCH: The 3M Open begins first-round play on Thursday, July 21 at 2 p.m. ET. All four rounds can be seen on The Golf Channel and ESPN+. The third and fourth rounds will be televised on CBS Sports and streamed on Paramount+.

About the 3M Open

This event is relatively new to the PGA Tour schedule, debuting in 2019. It essentially replaced the 3M Championship, which was a PGA Tour Champions event from 1993 through 2018. The sponsor is Minnesota-based company 3M.

Since its inception, the 3M Open has been played at TPC Twin Cities, which hosted the 3M Championship from 2001 to 2018. That course, designed by Hall of Fame golfing legend Arnold Palmer, is ranked as the most beautiful in the state of Minnesota.

In 2022 the prize money for the 3M Open is listed at $7.5 million. Previous tournament winners include Cameron Champ, Michael Thompson, and Matthew Wolff.

The 3M Open is seen by some on the PGA Tour as a challenging event that can serve to bolster rankings and eligibility for future competitions. Every pro golfer on the tour must maintain their PGA Tour Card, and a win in a tournament like the 3M Open earns a two-year exemption.

Since the tourney comes on the heels of The Open Championship, the field typically does not draw most of the very top earners from that season. This makes the 3M a great way for a golfer to earn credibility or snatch a tour exemption with a victory.
