Maryland Sports Betting Update
After Maryland dragged its feet on regulating online sports betting for many months, the state finally seems to be making some headway and is tentatively targeting the week of Thanksgiving to begin approving Maryland online sports betting licenses.
The deadline for online sports betting license applications is Friday, Oct. 21, and the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency will conduct a hearing on Oct. 27 during which it will review the qualifications of each applicant.
On Nov. 21, the Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission will consider the applications. Although there is no firm launch date, there is hope that it will happen before the end of the year.
What Maryland Bettors Can Look Forward to Betting On?
The Ravens have had a bit of an up-and-down season but at 3-3, still find themselves in first place in the AFC North. It’s an ultra-competitive division, and Baltimore should be in the thick of the race all year long. The final week of the regular season is Jan. 8, so if Maryland launches online betting by the end of the year, there should be opportunities to bet on the Ravens, especially if they qualify for the playoffs.
It will be an uphill battle for the Commanders to make something out of this season. At 2-4, they are in last place in the NFC East, and the rest of the division doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. Still, if Maryland launches online betting in December, there could be some chance to wager on the Commanders to play spoiler if they have not fought back into the playoff race.
The Terps are riding high with a 5-2 record heading into their game against Northwestern on Saturday, Oct. 22. That means all they have to do is win one more game to become bowl-eligible for the second consecutive season. Maryland is favored by 14 points this weekend and likely will be favored by at least that many in the regular season finale against Rutgers. In between, there will be chances to score big upsets of Penn State and Ohio State. With a bowl game being highly likely, Maryland bettors may have a chance to place an online wager on the Terps if the bowl game is late enough in the schedule.
