No. 12 Tennessee at Auburn: How To Watch, Key Stats, Betting Odds, Prediction

Tennessee basketball heads to the Plains of Auburn for its regular season finale against Bruce Pearl and the Tigers.

The Vols knocked off Auburn in Knoxville last month and they have major SEC Tournament seeding repercussions on Saturday afternoon’s showdown. A road win would give Tennessee a double bye in the SEC Tournament for the third straight season.

Auburn is reeling as of late and enters the game on the right side of the bubble having posted a 2-5 record since the loss in Knoxville.

What Tennessee Coach Rick Barnes Said About The Tigers

On Auburn being desperate entering this game

“It’ll be a big challenge. It would be a big challenge whether they won last night or not. They played great basketball last night, certainly had themselves in position to win that game and you have to give them great credit. That was as probably as tough a situation as you could go into there and they, I thought, handled themselves extremely well so win or lose we knew Saturday was going to be a challenge anyway you want to look at it. We’re going to have to go in there and be prepared.”

On if he sees this game against Auburn being another low scoring slug fest

“Looking back, I thought both teams missed shots. Both teams had some good looks at it and missed some shots with it. This time of year, I think you go into every game knowing it’s going to be difficult because everyone is wanting to win games and regardless of where they might be. We expect it to be a hard fought game.”

Last Five Games

Prediction

Tennessee heads to Auburn for its first full game without point guard Zakai Zeigler. The Vols have played better in their last two games and have now won consecutive games for the first time since January.

Auburn has struggled even more than Tennessee in February and has fallen all the way to the bubble because of it. The Tigers blew a 17-point second half lead at Alabama Wednesday night and are desperate for a strong win in its regular season finale.

Last month’s matchup was as physical and ugly as could be offensively. I don’t think this game will be quite to that level but it will be low scoring again.

Auburn is desperate and Tennessee has not played well on the road this season. I think the Tigers get revenge and win a close one Saturday afternoon.
