2023 Stanley Cup Final Betting Preview & Best Bets for Game 2

The Golden Knights did what they do best in Game 1 — put the puck through the net. However, they had plenty of help from the Panthers in doing so. The Panthers finished with 11 penalties (46 penalty minutes), which led to two power play goals for the Knights. They also had 14 giveaways, which led to a couple of Golden Knights’ goals as well. If they are to compete, they’ll need to clean up their mistakes quickly.

Prior to the Panthers’ onslaught of giveaways and penalties, they held a 1-0 lead or were tied 2-2 for a good portion of the game, proving they can compete with the Golden Knights. The Panthers have already proven they can play cleanly and aggressively when they need to. If they can do so in tonight’s game, it will be far more competitive and increase pressure on goaltender Adin Hill. Hill has dominated since being thrust into the starting spot for the Golden Knights, but he still doesn’t have much playoff experience and is likely to be further tested.

The Panthers are +116 underdogs for tonight’s contest, but in a similar situation in round 1, they found a way to steal Game 2 on the road. Considering how they looked early in the game, the Panthers stealing Game 2 seems favorable if they do, indeed, clean up the penalties and giveaways.  Here are a couple of player prop wagers to consider for tonight’s contest.

Jonathan Marchessault Anytime Goal Scorer (+180)

Jonathan Marchessault has been electric, having scored in six of his last eight outings. That includes a three-game scoring streak and his current two-game scoring streak. He is keeping himself in scoring position, and his teammates are finding him at the right times. It’s usually a safe bet to ride the hot hand, and he is as hot as any right now.

Matthew Tkachuk to Record 2 Plus Points (+172)

If the Panthers are to have a chance, they’ll need Matthew Tkachuk to come up big. So far, he has done just that, especially against the Boston Bruins in the opening round of the playoffs. In four of their seven games, he scored at least two points and was only shut out once. He was shut out in Game 1 of this series, but he had 14 penalty minutes. It’s hard for anyone to have an impact off the ice for that amount of time.

Cutting down penalties is going to be a focus of the entire Panthers’ team. He is usually much better in that category. With a return to normal tonight, look for him to leave his imprint on this game.
