2023 Belmont Stakes Preview and Best Bet

Currently, Forte is the favorite with 5-2 odds to win the race. Forte last raced back in April, placing first in the Florida Derby. The thoroughbred missed the Kentucky Derby due to a bruised foot. The injury, however, doesn’t seem to have wavered the faith of the oddsmakers too much in this one.

Here are the odds for the Belmont Stakes on FanDuel:

  1. Tapit Shoes 20-1
  2. Tapit Trice 3-1
  3. Arcangelo 8-1
  4. National Treasure 5-1
  5. IL Miracolo 30-1
  6. Forte 5-2
  7. Hit Show 10-1
  8. Angel of Empire 7-2
  9. Red Route One 15-1

Forte, a 3-year-old colt has won six of its seven races to this point and may be in line to win yet another. It also has the benefit of rest. Although it was due to injury, Forte hasn’t raced in over two months. That amount of rest will do the colt some good as it prepares to take on the longest track of the Triple Crown at Belmont, which is 1.5 miles.

Tapit Trice has the second-lowest odds for the race at 3-1, giving both Todd Pletcher-trained horses a high probability of securing yet another victory. However, the thoroughbred had a less-than-stellar showing in the Kentucky Derby, finishing seventh thanks to a slow start. The young colt has a tendency for slow starts, which gets it in trouble. If that continues in this one, it will be a challenge for Tapit Trice to be in a position to win against all the other talented horses on the track.

Arcaneglo doesn’t have top-three odds, but it is a good dark-horse pick. He is drawing similarities to Mage, who won the Kentucky Derby with 17-1 odds after a slow start and appears to be finding his way at the right time. Arcangelo placed first in its last two races, which includes the Peter Pan Stakes. Additionally, it is racing out of the No. 3 post position at Belmont, which has been one of the more successful spots on the track since 2020, producing three winners since that time.
