2023 NBA Finals Betting Preview & Best Bets for Game 5

Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic were finally held to somewhat average games in Game 4, and the Heat were still not able to win thanks to their struggling offense. Unlike in prior series, Miami’s role players haven’t shown up. Outside of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, scoring has been far and in between for the Heat. If they are to turn things around, they’ll need Gabe Vincent, Caleb Martin, and Duncan Robinson to play much better than they have.

As for the Nuggets, if Murray and Jokic aren’t scoring at will, the others around them are finding a way to get it done. Whether it be Kentavious Caldwell-Pope defensively, or Gordon and Brown offensively, Denver is getting significant contributions across the board. At the moment, the Heat need a near-perfect performance to win again due to Denver’s size advantages and the multitude of ways coach Michael Malone is taking advantage of them.

Miami has proven to be resilient all postseason long, starting with overcoming losing the first game of the play-in tournament as the ninth seed. As unfavorable as the situation appears for the Heat, it’s still dangerous for the Nuggets to count them out.

Here are some player prop bets to consider for tonight’s game.

Bam Adebayo to Score Over 20.5 Points (+100 odds on DraftKings)

Adebayo has scored at least 20 points in each game of the series. Due to subpar performances from the bulk of his teammates, he is forced to shoot the ball an elevated number of times. With the exception of Game 2, he has shot the ball at least 19 times in each contest. Adebayo is also averaging 41 minutes per game.

Considering the vulnerabilities Jokic has shown when Miami forces him into the action along with Adebayo’s assertiveness, his odds of covering this wager seem favorable.

Jamal Murray 10 Plus Assists (+165 odds)

Murray is the first player to dish 10-plus assists in his first four NBA Finals Games. He has done so for a variety of reasons, including increased minutes, the consistency of the two-man game with Jokic, and the fact that the Heat are forcing Jokic to be more of a scorer. The ball is in his hands for the vast majority of the game as the primary playmaker, which sets him well to cover his part of the wager.

Additionally, his teammates are shooting the ball great from the field when they get attempts. From Caldwell-Pope to Brown and to Gordon, the Nuggets’ supporting cast is making the Heat pay for playing off of them.

Bam Adebayo to Score the First Basket (+500 odds)

Adebayo has scored the first basket in two of the four games and has taken the first shot in three of the first four games. He has also won every jump ball of the series, although Denver stole possession in Game 1, which led to a first basket for the Nuggets to open the series. Considering Adebayo’s use to start the game and how often he is winning the opening tip, we like his odds of covering his part of this wager.

Aaron Gordon to Score 15 Plus Points (+125 odds)

Malone has continuously adjusted to Miami coach Erik Spoelstra’s attempts to slow Jokic and Murray down. One of the ways he has done so is to bring Gordon to the rim as an outlet for the Nuggets’ stars when they are trapped. Gordon usually has a smaller man on him due to the switches the Murray and Jokic pick-and-roll generates. It proved most effective in Game 4, where he finished 11-for-15 from the field. Eight of his 11 makes were in the painted area.

The Heat’s focus is sure to remain on Murray and Jokic, which should create enough high-quality looks at the rim for Gordon to cover this wager.
