UFC 290 Betting Odds and Preview

The night will be capped off with a matchup between the reigning Featherweight and interim Featherweight champions Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez, respectively. Volkanovski is a heavy favorite in the matchup, which is most likely due to his overall skill. In addition to striking abilities, Volanovski has been excellent at controlling the wrestling in his matches. His superb ground game sets him well against Rodriguez, especially since he has been downed a lot in his last few fights.

The co-main event is a title fight between Brandon Moreno and Alexandre Pantoja. Moreno is the favorite and is on an impressive run, having now defeated three top-five fighters in the last three years, including back-to-back TKO victories. However, Pantoja has defeated Moreno twice in two matchups – once by submission and once by decision. The first matchup, however, was an exhibition matchup while participating in The Ultimate Fighter.

Check out the best bets we put together for the July 8 UFC 290 event, and use a $1,250 bonus from the Caesars Promo Code STARTFULL to place a bet.

Alexandre Pantoja ML +175 vs. Brandon Moreno

Moreno has grown leaps and bounds since the two last met in 2018, but his ground game is still far behind that of Pantoja’s. Moreno is an excellent striker and usually secures victory by TKO or decision, which he has done in five of his last six fights. However, neither fighter has been finished as a pro, which means it’s very possible this one will go the distance. That’s why we like Pantoja’s value for this pick.

As primarily a striker, Moreno has less to rely on as the fight progresses against a similarly aggressive opponent. As endurance fades, Pantoja’s style is better built to get the upper hand. Additionally, although significant time has passed since they last fought, you have to put some stock in Pantoja’s 2-0 record in their head-to-head matchups.

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez to go the Distance (Yes -105)

Volkanovski is a great striker, but not a top-notch finisher. That is reflected in his last 10 fights, in which he won seven by decision. Of his last six matches, five went the full distance. Rodriguez has been better at finishing recently, but given he is the underdog, and deservingly so, we don’t expect him to make this a short fight either.

Volkanovski has racked up a couple of unanimous decisions lately, and that’s what we expect in this one.
