The New York Mets selected Tennessee pitcher Bryce Jenkins with the 516th pick (17th round) of the 2023 MLB Draft Tuesday afternoon.

Jenkins spent just one year at Tennessee after transferring in from junior college. The right-handed reliever failed to earn a defined role in the Vols’ bullpen, posting a 1-0 record and 5.51 ERA in 16.1 inning pitched last season.

The Knoxville native played his prep baseball at Hardin Valley but still has one year of eligibility remaining if he opted not to sign with New York.

In the Mets’ farm system, Jenkins joins former Tennessee pitcher Blade Tidwell who has been dominant in minor league baseball this season.

Jenkins is the eighth Tennessee player selected in the 2023 MLB Draft joining Chase Dollander, Maui Ahuna, Andrew Lindsey, Seth Halvorsen, Jared Dickey, Zach Joyce and Jake Fitzgibbons.
