How Former Tennessee Vols Performed In NBA Summer League

Eight former Tennessee basketball players competed in the NBA Summer League over the past few weeks.

For a handful of former Vols, the summer league action gave them a chance to audition in front of foreign basketball franchises. However, a couple of former Tennessee players shined in the summer leagues and bolstered their chances of making a NBA roster next season.

Let’s take a look at how the eight former Tennessee basketball players performed in summer league.

Kyle Alexander

The former Tennessee center played five games with the Washington Wizards this summer where he averaged 6.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 15.2 minutes per game.

Alexander has played in the Spanish Liga ACB League for each of the last three years but parted ways with Valencia last month.

Jordan Bowden

Bowden played in four games with the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 8.3 points and one assist per game on 46% shooting from the field. The former Tennessee shooting guard shined in an 18 point performance against the Kings.

Bowden is headed overseas for next season, signing with French basketball club SLUC Nancy Basket on Sunday.

Kennedy Chandler

After Memphis cut Chandler at the end of last season, the former Tennessee point guard shined with the Brooklyn Nets this summer. The former five-star recruit averaged 14.0 points, 5.4 assists and 2.0 steals in five games this summer.

Chandler now looks to sign a regular season contract that keeps him in the NBA and gives him an opportunity to earn playing time.

Keon Johnson

The former Tennessee shooting guard played in only one game this summer after injuring his finger.

Johnson played in 44 games for the Portland Trail Blazers last season, averaging 4.7 points and 1.5 assists in 10.4 minutes per game.

Julian Phillips

The rookie wing got his first taste of professional basketball playing in four-games this summer. Phillips averaged 8.8 points and three rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game. The one-and-done prospect was efficient scoring, shooting 52% from the field and 44% from three-point range.

Phillips signed a four-year contract with Chicago after the Bulls drafted him with the 35th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Uros Plavsic

Another Tennessee rookie, Plavsic averaged 5.5 points and five rebounds in two games with the Atlanta Hawks.

The former Tennessee center now looks to sign a contract to start his professional career.

Jaden Springer

One of the best players in this year’s summer league, Springer dominated in three games for the Philadelphia 76ers. Springer averaged 22.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.3 blocks in 30.4 minutes per game.

Springer moved back-and-forth from the G-League to the Sixers active roster during the 2022-23 season averaging 2.6 points in 16 NBA games.

Yves Pons

Pons joined Plavsic on the Atlanta Hawks summer league roster, averaging one point and 1.5 rebounds in two games played.

The France native is entering the second season of his contract with the French league team ASVEL Basket.
