British Open Betting Odds, Preview, and Best Bets

The last time the Open Championship came to Hoylake was in 2014. Rory McIlroy was the Champion Golfer of the Year and the course scorecard read par-72. The par-5 10th hole has been converted to a par-4, and the 17th hole is completely new. The same challenge remains for the field of 156 — keep the ball in play for 72 holes. Rory McIlroy returns to the course as the favorite priced at +750 on BetMGM.

Here are three of our favorite wagers ahead of the tournament followed by a table with odds for the entire field.

Taylor Moore Top 20 (+600)

Moore will either contend on Sunday and finish in the mix or miss the cut entirely, but probably not land somewhere in between. Moore secured his first Tour victory this season at the Valspar Championship. He utilized that performance as a launchpad for his T11 finish at the RBC Heritage, T4 finish at the Zurich Classic, and a T4 finish at the Rocket Mortgage. He’s a solid all-around golfer that truly excels on the greens. With how difficult the conditions could be this week, the one place where it will be crucial to gain strokes is on the greens. When Moore’s putter is hot, he’s one of the better green players on Tour.

Sahith Theegala Top 10 (+1100)

Despite failing to secure a win (we’re not counting the QBE Shootout) since turning pro in 2020, he’s cemented himself as one of the brightest young stars on the PGA Tour. Currently ranked 31st in the FedEx Cup Standings, he has made 22 of 24 cuts this season and boasts seven Top-10 finishes, including his runner-up performance at the RSM Classic. Theegala finished ninth at the Masters and made the cut at both the PGA Championship and U.S. Open. The 25-year-old is a terrific all-around player, especially once he gets off the tee box.

Scottie Scheffler Top 10 (-125)

Scheffler has finished in the top 12 in each of his last 19 events and is lapping the rest of the world when it comes to strokes gained from tee to green. He is literally playing at a Tiger-like level even if he’s not receiving the same coverage for it. Why? Well, he’s not Tiger Woods, and he has not won as much as his numbers have indicated he should be winning. Expect him to land in the top 10 this weekend.
