Five-Star Receiver Mike Matthews Commits To Tennessee

Five-star receiver Mike Matthews committed to Tennessee over a top group which included Clemson, Georgia and Southern Cal Wednesday night.

Matthews ranks as a five-star recruit and the No. 13 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Parkview High School standout ranks as the fourth best receiver in the country and the third best player in the state of Georgia.

Josh Heupel and his staff landing Matthews marks one of their biggest wins of the 2024 recruiting cycle. The blue-chip recruit took official visits to Clemson, Georgia and USC in June and also frequently visited Alabama during his recruitment.

Tennessee went head-to-head with the top programs in the country to land one of the five best prep receivers in the country.

As a junior, Matthews caught 48 passes for 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns in 12 games. Parkview plays in the highest classification of Georgia high school football as Matthews faces some of the best prep competition in the country.

The 6-foot-1, 180 pound receiver is a multi-sport high school star, playing basketball and running track-and-field.

Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting class now contains 17 commits and two receiver commits. Matthews joins four-star South Carolina native Braylon Staley as the second receiver in Tennessee’s recruiting class. The Lilburn, Georgia native immediately becomes the highest rated commit in the Vols’ recruiting class.

Heupel and receiver’s coach Kelsey Pope are still after five-star Ryan Wingo and four-star Chattanooga native Amari Jefferson. Jefferson has an early August commitment date and is down to a top group including Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

Matthews’ commitment propels Tennessee from the nation’s No. 15 recruiting class to the No. 11 recruiting class according to the 247sports team rankings.
