After suffering an injury during the Orange & White spring game this past April, Tennessee freshman tight end Ethan Davis is healed up and ready to go for fall camp and the 2023 season.

Davis’ spring game was cut short in the second half due to an upper-body injury that was suffered, but unrelated to a previous shoulder injury Davis had at the high school level.

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel shared an update on Davis’ injury in late April and confirmed that it was a collarbone injury but that he anticipated Davis to be ready to go in “a short amount of time.”

Fast forward to Wednesday and Thursday and the freshman tight end has been on the practice field and going through reps with his teammates. The Vols officially opened up fall camp this week on the road to the 2023 season.

Following the Vols’ morning practice on Thursday, Davis spoke to the media in his first press conference. Davis was quickly asked about his injury and responded with a positive update.

“I feel really good,” Davis said on Thursday. “Cleared. Completely healthy. Collarbone is 100 percent. No restrictions. No more shoulder [brace] for the old surgery last year. So I’m pretty much 100 percent ready to go for the fall.”

The 6-foot-5, 232-pound tight end from Atlanta, GA is a very talented prospect that doesn’t lack the athleticism to be a playmaking tight end in the SEC. Davis hauled in three passes for 57 yards in the Orange & White game including a remarkable over-the-shoulder catch on the sideline after a pass from Nico Iamaleava.

Davis does have two experienced tight ends in Jacob Warren and transfer McCallan Castles in front of him on the roster. But with the skillset that Davis has on the field, the freshman tight end could find his way onto the gridiron at some point this season in specific formations and setups.
