Trio Of Tennessee Commits Land On Preseason High School All-American Teams

Football season is almost here and before the Vols season begins on Sept. 2 against Virginia, high school football seasons across the country will get underway.

Ahead of the 2023 season MaxPreps released its two preseason All-American high school teams with a trio of Tennessee commits landing on the two teams.

Five-star receiver Mike Matthews is the all purpose play on the first team offense, four-star Kaleb Beasley is one of the corners on the first team and four-star Edwin Spillman is one of the linebackers on the second team.

Matthews is a standout at Atlanta’s Parkview High School where he caught 48 passes for 1,031 yards and 9 TD as a junior last season. The 6-foot-1 receiver ranks as the No. 13 player and No. 4 receiver in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings.

Spillman and Beasley are teammates at Nashville power Lipscomb Academy. The two defenders helped lead the Mustangs to back-to-back Division II-AA state championships and are looking to bring Lipscomb another title as they move up to the Division II-AAA classification this season.

Beasley totaled nine interceptions as a junior last season and ranks as the No. 146 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 6-foot corner ranks as the top player in the state of Tennessee and the 15th best prep cornerback in the nation.

Spillman totaled 129 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and two sacks as a junior. The Volunteer commit ranks as the No. 337 player and 28th best linebacker in the country as well as the No. 8 prep player in the Volunteer State.

Tennessee football’s 19 commit recruiting class ranks ninth nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
