Chiefs vs. Saints Betting Odds and Preview

The Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champs and don’t have much to prove, but QB Patrick Mahomes and the starters are expected to play on Sunday, keeping in trend with years past. However, the offense likely won’t be on the field long, as the most electric offense in football doesn’t require much preseason action. There are other specific areas they would like to get better at, and none are more critical than pass defense. They allowed the most touchdowns through the air in 2022, they were middle of the pack in passing yards allowed, and they were a 0.1 point away from finishing in the top 10 in completion percentage allowed.

In seven picks in the 2023 draft, they took five defensive players, all of whom are expected to get some burn in today’s contest. Fortunately, a lot of them will earn valuable experience as the Saints are expected to play their starters as well. It isn’t a big surprise given their circumstances. They acquired QB Derrick Carr over the offseason, and he has a lot to learn about the new system.

With Carr taking a good number of snaps, the Saints’ offense is likely to outlast the production of Mahomes and company. When Carr does eventually come out of the game, Jameis Winston is expected to take snaps. The former starter should demand a solid number of snaps to get ready for the season as Carr’s production in the new system is yet to be seen. Although he has had his troubles, he is a productive QB and will provide enough of a spark to keep the offense flowing better than it normally would with a backup in a preseason contest.

Additionally, the Saints had one of the better pass defenses in the league last season. During the draft, they selected three solid defenders to add to that defense, including Clemson’s star defensive tackle Bryan Bresee. The depth of their defense will go a long way against the Chiefs’ backup QBs in Blaine Gabbert, Shane Buechele, and Chris Oladokun.

If you’re looking for a wager, the Saints on the spread makes sense in this one
