Neyland Stadium has added a free WiFi network ahead of the 2023 season, RTI learned during a tour of the newly renovated Lower West Club on Wednesday.

The network is called ‘RockyTopWiFi’ and was working at full, five-bar speed during Wednesday’s tour.

Installing free WiFi has been in the works for a while now, as Tennessee announced they were launching the WiFi project back in April.

“Tennessee Athletics has initiated the installation of a very high density (VHD) Wi-Fi network at historic Neyland Stadium,” Tennessee put out in a press release a handful of months ago.

Now, the network is up and running and ready for the season.

WiFi has been a common request from Tennessee fans for quite a while now. Due to technology, and specifically phones and internet, becoming a bigger part of daily life, fans have been clamoring for WiFi in Neyland.

“We know Vol Nation has been looking forward to this,” Tennessee Director of Athletics Danny White said in April press release. “The bones of Neyland Stadium date back to 1921, and as it grew over several decades, no one could have planned for how we’d deliver a strong Wi-Fi signal through tons of concrete and steel. But we have a great partner that knows how to get this done at a venue like this. It’s exciting to get the ball rolling, because this will elevate the experience of every single fan who visits Neyland Stadium.”

The initial press release stated the WiFi project would take some time to complete, and it was going to be worked on through the 2023 season. While there may be some trial and error in the beginning, it seems as if the network is ready to use as soon as September 9 when the Vols take on Austin Peay in their home opener.

It is important to note that the strength of the connection may vary depending on where you are in the stadium, but in the lower west side of the stadium, and in the concourse, it worked perfectly on Wednesday.

“At the completion of the project, nearly all areas—including concourses, concessions and plaza spaces—throughout Neyland Stadium will have reliable access to Wi-Fi,” the April press release stated.

The installation of free WiFi and Lower West Club renovations are just more examples of how Neyland Stadium continues to become more modern.

During the 2022 offseason, Tennessee installed multiple new features at Neyland Stadium. From the digital ticketing setup across all stadium gates to the pair of V-O-L-S signs to Neyland Stadium, a party deck in the north end zone, and premium chair-back seating in the lower bowl, Athletic Director Danny White has continued to improve Neyland every year.
