Tennessee Hangs On to Top 25 Spot in the College Football Playoff Rankings

Tennessee landed in one of the final five spots in the latest College Football Playoff rankings that were released by ESPN on Tuesday night.

The Vols remained unchanged from the previous week and come in as the No. 21 team in the poll and the sixth team from the SEC to make the rankings.

Tennessee’s spot in the College Football Playoff rankings is the highest of their Week 13 rankings, landing at No. 23 in the Coaches Poll and falling unranked in the AP Top 25 poll.

The Vols finished the regular season with a final record of 8-4 on the year. Tennessee fell to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Missouri while defeating Virginia, Austin Peay, UTSA, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Kentucky, UConn, and Vanderbilt. The Vols will wait until this Sunday to see where they land in the bowl selection process.

Tennessee comes in as the sixth and final ranked team from the Southeastern Conference.

Georgia remains the No. 1 team in the country after finishing with an undefeated 12-0 record with three Top 25 wins over Missouri, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.

Alabama, meanwhile, stays put at No. 8 in the rankings. Just like in the past weeks, Alabama is stuck behind the No. 7 Texas Longhorns with Texas having a win over Alabama from early in the season.

Missouri stays at No. 9 in the rankings.

Ole Miss and LSU both moved up one spot as the Rebels landed at No. 11 and the Tigers moved to No. 13 in the country.

Tennessee rounds out the list at No. 21 after a 48-24 win over Vanderbilt in Knoxville this past Saturday.
