No. 17 Tennessee cruised to a 21-point victory over George Mason on Tuesday night in the Vols’ return to Knoxville.

Tennessee defeated George Mason by a score of 87-66 as the Vols scored 39 points in the first half and 48 points in the second half.

The big story of the game revolved around Tennessee center Jonas Aidoo. The junior big man had a dominant night with 17 points (new career-high), eight rebounds, four assists, and one block. Aidoo even stepped out behind the arc and knocked down two big three-pointers against the Patriots.

Tennessee presented a very balanced scoring effort in their 21-point win on Tuesday night. The Vols had eight players score at least six points with Aidoo leading the way followed by Josiah-Jordan James with 15, Tobe Awaka with 11, and Dalton Knecht with 10.

Tennessee found a big advantage during transition as the Vols scored 15 fast break points compared to George Mason’s three. The Vols also outrebounded the Patriots 43 to 27 and scored 40 points in the paint compared to the opposition’s 24.

Tennessee’s win over George Mason snapped a three-game losing streak the Vols suffered against then-No. 2 Purdue, then-No. 1 Kansas, and then-No. 17 North Carolina.

After the Vols’ win over George Mason, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes met with the media to discuss his thoughts on the game. Barnes spoke about Jonas Aidoo’s big night, Knecht/Awaka/Dilione returning from injury, the upcoming Illinois game, and much more.

In addition to Barnes, Tennessee center Jonas Aidoo and sophomore forward Tobe Awaka (career-high 11 points) also spent a few moments speaking to the media.
