No. 12 Tennessee defeated Georgia Southern by a score of 74-56 on Tuesday night in Knoxville’s Food City Center.

The Vols jumped out to a big lead at halftime but the Eagles were able to chip away at it, outscoring Tennessee 35-25 in the second 20 minutes of play. Fortunately for the Vols, though, their first-half lead was enough to keep the Eagles at arm’s reach as different rotations subbed in during the second half.

Jonas Aidoo was the Vols’ big bright spot with a career-high 29 points on the night. Aidoo had 21 points in the first half, which also matched the Eagles’ first-half scoring output. Aidoo continues to credit newfound confidence from himself, his teammates, and his coaches for his high-efficiency production through the first 10 games of the season.

After the game, both head coaches met with the media along with a pair of Tennessee players. Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes spoke about the disappointing play of Tennessee’s older players in the second half and Aidoo’s big game while Georgia Southern head coach Charlie Henry spoke about the Vols letting their foot off the gas after the big lead.

In addition to Barnes and Henry, Tennessee forward Jonas Aidoo and wing freshman Cameron Carr met with the media. Aidoo spoke about what went into his career-high scoring night while Carr spoke about the mental toughness that he is learning as a freshman player.
