Former Tennessee offensive lineman Addison Nichols announced his commitment to Arkansas football on Tuesday afternoon, just over two weeks after entering the transfer portal.

Nichols was the first four-star recruit to commit to Josh Heupel and his staff in the summer of 2021. The Atlanta native played in just two games and redshirted during the 2022 season before playing in 11 games as mostly a special teams player in 2023.

The former-four star recruit competed to be the Vols’ backup center during his redshirt freshman season but lost the job as left guard Ollie Lane slid into the center spot and Texas transfer Andrej Karic stepped into the left guard spot when Cooper Mays missed the first four games of the season after undergoing a minor procedure.

Nichols played played 116 total offensive snaps as a redshirt freshman, earning a 61.3 PFF grade. Nichols played a season-high 67 offensive snaps in the Vols’ regular season finale against Vanderbilt.

Tennessee returns at least three starting offensive linemen from last season’s team and right guard Javontez Spraggins could make it a fourth if he elects to return for his super senior season. Those factors made Nichols path to a starting spot unlikely during his redshirt sophomore season but not impossible.

At Arkansas, Nichols joins fellow Tennessee transfer Doneiko Slaughter who committed to Arkansas late last week. The Vols travel to Fayetteville on Oct. 5 to face the Razorbacks in their second SEC game of the season.
