VFLs in NFL Week 16: Alontae Taylor, Joshua Palmer, Derek Barnett Fill the Stat Sheet

Week 16 of the NFL season has officially concluded, and 21 VFLs saw action in Week 16.

See how each former Vol fared in this past weekend’s action below.

S Micah Abernathy – Atlanta Falcons

Played 71 percent of special teams snaps in Atlanta’s 29-10 win over the Colts.

DE Derek Barnett – Houston Texans

Recorded three tackles, two  solo, two TFLs, three QB hits, and one pass deflection while playing 73 percent of defensive snaps and 8 percent of special teams snaps as a starting defensive end for Houston. It was his second consecutive start for the Texans.

DT Matthew Butler – Las Vegas Raiders

On the practice squad.

WR Marquez Callaway – New Orleans Saints

On the practice squad.

LS Morgan Cox – Tennessee Titans

Snapped for one successful field goal attempt and two successful extra-point attempts along with three punts in Tennessee’s 20-17 loss to the Seahawks.

QB Joshua Dobbs – Minnesota Vikings

Was a healthy scratch in Minnesota’s 30-24 loss to the Lions. However, the Vikings could make a QB change again considering Nick Mullens’ recent struggles with turnovers.

TE/FB Princeton Fant – Dallas Cowboys

On the practice squad.

QB Hendon Hooker – Detroit Lions

Was active for his first ever NFL game but did not log a stat as third-string quarterback.

WR Jalin Hyatt – New York Giants

Failed to draw a target in the Giants’ 33-25 loss to the Eagles on Christmas Day but did start at wide receiver. Hyatt played 56 percent of offensive snaps.

S Theo Jackson – Minnesota Vikings

Recorded two tackles, both solo, and played 19 percent of defensive snaps along with 69 percent of special teams’ snaps in the Vikings’ loss to Detroit at home.

WR Jauan Jennings – San Francisco 49ers

Inactive – concussion.

LB Alexander Johnson – Miami Dolphins

On the practice squad.

FB Jakob Johnson – Las Vegas Raiders

Played 35 percent of offensive snaps and 56 percent of special teams snaps as a starting fullback in the Raiders’ 20-14 win over the Chiefs on Christmas Day.

WR/PR Velus Jones Jr. – Chicago Bears

Recorded one rushing attempt for four yards and did not catch his lone target while playing 19 percent of offensive snaps in Chicago’s 27-16 home win over the Cardinals. Jones Jr. also returned a kickoff for 26 yards and played 28 percent of special teams snaps.

RB Alvin Kamara – New Orleans Saints

Had his worst game to date in 2023, recording just nine carries for 19 yards and five catches on six targets for 16 yards on 73 percent of offensive snaps in the Saints’ 30-22 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football.

OL Cade Mays – Carolina Panthers

Started for the fourth time this season and played every offensive snap as starting left guard. Mays also played 13 percent of special teams snaps in Carolina’s narrow 33-30 loss to the Packers.

CB Emmanuel Moseley – Detroit Lions

OUT FOR THE SEASON

WR Joshua Palmer – Los Angeles Chargers

Caught five of eight targets for 47 yards while playing 93 percent of offensive snaps as the Chargers’ No. 1 wide receiver in their loss to the Bills on Saturday night.

RB Cordarrelle Patterson – Atlanta Falcons

Ran the ball seven times for 26 yards and caught both of his targets for seven yards. Patterson played 20 percent of offensive snaps and 11 percent of special teams snaps during Atlanta’s big win over the Colts at home.

DE Kyle Phillips – New Orleans Saints

Recorded one tackle on 17 percent of defensive snaps and 29 percent of special teams snaps in the Saints’ loss to the Rams on Thursday Night Football.

LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin – Detroit Lions

Recorded one solo tackle while playing 27 percent of defensive snaps and 77 percent of special teams snaps as the Lions’ ST captain in their 30-24 crucial win over the Vikings to win the NFC North.

OG Trey Smith – Kansas City Chiefs

Played 86 percent of offensive snaps as starting right guard for the Chiefs in their 20-14 loss to the Raiders on Christmas Day. Smith also played 8 percent of special teams snaps.

The reason Smith did not play every offensive snap is due to a calf injury he suffered in the fourth quarter. His status is up in the air for next week against the Bengals.

CB Cameron Sutton – Detroit Lions

Recorded two tackles while playing 100 percent of defensive snaps and four percent of special teams snaps as a starting cornerback for the Lions in their road win against the Vikings.

CB Alontae Taylor – New Orleans Saints

Filled the stat sheet as he recored six tackles, five solo, and played 73 percent of defensive snaps as a starting cornerback along with four percent of special teams snaps in the Saints’ loss to the Rams on Thursday Night Football.

DE Darrell Taylor – Seattle Seahawks

Played 38 percent of defensive snaps and 14 percent of special teams snaps but did not log a stat as a reserve defensive end for Seahawks in their win over the Titans.

WR Cedric Tillman – Cleveland Browns

Caught both of his targets for 13 yards on 73 percent of offensive snaps. Tillman also played eight percent of special teams snaps in the Browns’ dominating win over the Texans in Houston.

DT Shy Tuttle – Carolina Panthers

Recorded six tackles, two solo, while playing 56 percent of defensive snaps and 20 percent of special teams snaps as a starting defensive tackle for the Panthers in their loss to Green Bay.

DT Kendal Vickers – Arizona Cardinals

On the practice squad.

OT Darnell Wright – Chicago Bears

Played every offensive snap as the starting right tackle for the Bears in their win over the Cardinals. Wright also played 17 percent of special teams snaps.

DE Byron Young – Los Angeles Rams

Tallied one tackle on 82 percent of defensive snaps in the Rams’ 30-22 win over the Saints on TNF.
