Super Bowl LVIII will include two former Tennessee football players. With the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers punching their ticket to the Super Bowl on Sunday, both Trey Smith and Jauan Jennings are advancing to the Super Bowl.

Both offensive players were teammates at Tennessee. Jennings was a receiver for Tennessee from 2015-2019 while Smith was an offensive lineman from 2017-20. Both players signed to play for Butch Jones before ending their careers playing for Jeremy Pruitt.

The 49ers went to the Super Bowl the year before they drafted Jennings in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft but Super Bowl LVIII will be the first of Jennings’ career.

A third down specialist, Jennings caught just one pass for eight yards in the 49ers’ come from behind NFC Championship win over Detroit. But it was a huge catch, Jennings snagged a pass over the middle with one-hand to move the sticks on third down as San Francisco began its comeback early in the second half.

Jennings was even more crucial in the 49ers’ division round win over Green Bay when he caught five passes for 61 yards.

Smith is heading to his second Super Bowl in just three professional seasons as the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to win their second straight Super Bowl. Kansas City defeated the Baltimore Ravens 17-10 on Sunday afternoon.

The Jackson, Tennessee native is one of the NFL’s best interior offensive linemen and has started nearly every game for the Chiefs at right guard after Kansas City picked him in sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Smith twice earned First Team All-SEC honors in his tenure at Tennessee while also earning Second Team All-SEC honors as a freshman.
